Gas work in caravans and park homes

Ian's Gas Safe registration (6061489) covers LPG appliances and pipework in caravans and park homes, which is a separate competence that many engineers don't hold. He services, repairs and safety checks the boiler, cooker, fire and water heater in static caravans and park homes across the West Midlands and the three counties around it.

Gas safety in a park home

A caravan or park home has less room for a gas leak to disperse than a house. Have the appliances checked every year, and fit a carbon monoxide alarm if there isn't one.

If you can smell gas, turn the supply off at the meter if it's safe to, open the windows and ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 before anyone else.

  • Regulators, hoses and cylindersThe changeover, the regulator, the pigtails and the hoses have a service life and are replaced when they reach it.
How it works

Booking a check

  1. Ring with the site

Say where the home is, which appliances it has and whether the check is for a landlord, an operator or for yourself.

  2. Access arranged

If the home is on a park, Ian will need the plot number and a way in. Cylinders need to be on and have gas in them.

  3. The check

Every appliance is tested, the pipework is tightness tested and the ventilation is checked. It usually takes 45 minutes to an hour.

  4. The record

You are left with a written gas safety record covering every appliance, with any defects noted and the date the next check is due.

Who needs it

Owners, operators and holiday lets

If a caravan or park home is let out, the person letting it has the same duty as any landlord: a gas safety check every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with a record given to the occupier.

For owner-occupied park homes there is no legal requirement, but the appliances still age, and the confined space makes a fault more serious than it would be in a house. An annual check is cheap insurance.

I would rate him 10 out 10 purely by the way he conducts himself and his attention to detail on the job and more importantly safety.

If it starts WV, DY, WS or B, almost certainly. For the three counties further out, ring with the postcode and Ian will say. He'd rather tell you on the phone than have you wait.
