Smart thermostats, fitted and set up
A smart thermostat lets you control the heating from your phone, set a schedule that matches how you live, and see what the heating is doing. Ian fits and wires it to the boiler, which needs a Gas Safe engineer for the boiler side and an electrician for the wiring. He is both. He fits Worcester Bosch's own controls, or Hive, Nest, Tado or whichever make you'd prefer.
Prices are given on the phone, or after Ian has seen the job. Have your postcode ready.

Heating on all day for nobody?
A schedule that matches the house, and a thermostat you can turn down from work, usually pays for itself in a winter.
Why people fit one
- Control from anywhereTurn the heating on from the car on the way home, or off from the office when nobody is in.
- A schedule that fitsDifferent times for weekdays and weekends, and a lower temperature overnight, set from the app rather than a programmer nobody understands.
- It learns the houseMost smart thermostats work out how long the house takes to warm up and start the boiler at the right time, rather than a fixed time.
- Weather compensationSome models talk to the boiler and lower the flow temperature on mild days, which is where much of the saving comes from with a condensing boiler.
- ZoningWith smart radiator valves, each room can have its own schedule. The spare room doesn't have to be heated all day.
Fitting a smart thermostat
Check compatibility
Ian checks the boiler, the existing wiring and whether the boiler supports a modulating connection like OpenTherm.
Wire it in
The receiver is wired to the boiler and the old programmer or thermostat is removed. NICEIC registered, so the wiring is certified.
Set up the app
The thermostat is connected to your WiFi and the app is set up on your phone, with a starting schedule.
Test
Heating and hot water are called for from the app and checked at the boiler before Ian leaves.
Choosing a thermostat
On a Worcester Bosch boiler Ian usually recommends Worcester's own controls, because they talk to the boiler directly and adjust the flow temperature to the weather, which is where the saving comes from. If you already have a make in mind, or a system you want it to work with, he fits that instead.
Any of the main makes will let you set a schedule and control the heating from your phone. The differences are in how well they talk to the boiler, whether they can control hot water on a system boiler, and whether they work with smart radiator valves.
Ian is extremely efficient and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend him enough

Before you ring
Which smart thermostat should I get?
On a Worcester Bosch boiler, Ian usually recommends Worcester's own controls, because they talk to the boiler directly. If you have a preference, Hive, Nest, Tado or another make, he fits that. Any of the main makes will let you control the heating from your phone and set a schedule. Smart thermostats.
Will I get a certificate for electrical work?
Yes. NICEIC Domestic Installer registration means Ian certifies his own work and notifies the council where the rules require it, for example a new circuit or a consumer unit. Electrical work carries a six-year warranty. Electrical.
What's the difference between a heating engineer and a plumber?
A heating engineer installs, repairs and services boilers and central heating. A plumber works on water supply, drainage, taps, toilets and bathrooms. Ian does both, but by law only a Gas Safe registered engineer can work on a gas boiler. Plumbing has its own page.
How do I pay?
By bank transfer. Repairs, services and certificates are paid when the job is done. Bigger jobs, like a new boiler, a bathroom or air conditioning, are 50% on booking to cover the materials, and the balance on completion.
