How it works

From the call to the certificate

  1. Describe it

What you want done, or what is going wrong, and where in the house.

  2. Quote

Small jobs are priced on the phone or on the day. Anything bigger, like a rewire or a consumer unit change, gets a written quote.

  3. The work

Done to the current wiring regulations, with the circuit tested before it goes live.

  4. Certificate

An electrical installation certificate or minor works certificate for the job, and the council notified where the rules require it.

Why it matters

What NICEIC registration means

Certain electrical work in a home, such as a new circuit or a consumer unit, has to be notified to the council under the Building Regulations. A registered Domestic Installer can self-certify and notify it, so there is no separate inspection to arrange or pay for.

The registration is checked every year by NICEIC, and you can look up the entry yourself on their website.

About Ian, and how to check each registration →

I would rate him 10 out 10 purely by the way he conducts himself and his attention to detail on the job and more importantly safety.

Questions about electrical

Before you ring

All the questions and answers →

Will I get a certificate for electrical work?

Yes. NICEIC Domestic Installer registration means Ian certifies his own work and notifies the council where the rules require it, for example a new circuit or a consumer unit. Electrical work carries a six-year warranty. Electrical.

Do I need a separate electrician for a bathroom?

Not with Ian. He is NICEIC registered as well as Gas Safe, so the pipework, the shower, the extractor fan and the lighting are done by the same person and certified by him. Bathrooms.

Which smart thermostat should I get?

On a Worcester Bosch boiler, Ian usually recommends Worcester's own controls, because they talk to the boiler directly. If you have a preference, Hive, Nest, Tado or another make, he fits that. Any of the main makes will let you control the heating from your phone and set a schedule. Smart thermostats.

How do I pay?

By bank transfer. Repairs, services and certificates are paid when the job is done. Bigger jobs, like a new boiler, a bathroom or air conditioning, are 50% on booking to cover the materials, and the balance on completion.
